No obvious answers here, :o . I would hesitate to tackle such a demanding copy and I very much doubt you'll find anyone in Japan experienced in this type of work or working even at this level of fairly generic Edo period work.

 

 

Has anyone seen inlay work as delicate as that gold fence, done in modern times? Bare in mind the fuchi is probably around 12mm high, which would make the fence only a couple of millimetres high.

Even if an artist capable and willing were found to make this f/k imaged, by the time all the hours were added up in addition to the cost of materials one would almost for certain come out much farther ahead simply finding a made set. And to answer the question Brian Tschernega is certainly capable.

Since I am trying to mount it on a Shinsakuto without making it look like a dwarfs head on Arnold Schwarzenegger's body, I think I need something bigger than what is available from the antique pool.
