Taz575 Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 Finally got a papered Katana today!! Well, it arrived from Japan today! Kashu Iehira (2nd generation) NBTHK papered katana, 26.13" Nagasa. Nice shirasaya, 2 piece habaki. Killer Hamon: I think this will match up nicely with my Wak #2 as a Daisho, ocean/fishing themed. Both hamons look like waves. On this one, it looks a bit like a whale in the hamon at one point in the first hamon pic towards the right of the frame. 1 Quote
drbvac Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Nice blade - The Iehera hamons are quite spectacular indeed. This is mine and I am quite fond of it as well Quote
Taz575 Posted July 17, 2016 Author Report Posted July 17, 2016 Very nice!! I tried to see some other pics of blades from these smiths, but there are very few pictures. Too bad because they are really interesting up close!! Quote
tony edmunds Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Lovely blade congratulations I'm a fan of Kashu smiths and I've owned several examples of their work, definitely under appreciated. Quote
Daso Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Congrats, Hamon reminds me of clouds. Really nice blade Quote
Teimei Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Congrats! You will never be disappointed by a kashu smith . regards, Quote
Taz575 Posted July 18, 2016 Author Report Posted July 18, 2016 Yeah, I am doing more research into the Kashu swordsmiths! The hamon really reminds me of waves, but another friend I showed it to in person this morning thought the hamon looked like clouds, too! Quote
Taz575 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Report Posted August 14, 2016 Video of the sword from the seller: 3 Quote
Greg F Posted August 14, 2016 Report Posted August 14, 2016 Hi Tim. congrats on the blade, very attractive hamon! I watch these vids by TaTokyo / High5 Japan very regularly and unfortunately they informed me they wont be doing them anymore. All the best. Greg Quote
Taz575 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Report Posted August 14, 2016 They give a good showing of the sword, but the light shows every little defect. The shinogi looks horrible with the light, but in person, is no where near that bad! Diamond_Boutique is starting to do videos of the stuff they are selling on Ebay as well now, but they don't show the hamon as well in their pics or videos. I got my first Ebay Wak from Diamond_Boutique based on the 1 good pic of the hamon that he had; most of his other stuff doesn't show the hamon very well at all. Quote
