My Second Addition To Beginner Collection Tango No Kami Kanemichi

Hello All,

As always and following guidance from the very helpful members here and the NY Token Kai, I've added my second sword to my Kiyomitsu Katana. I present for your thoughts my Tango No Kami Kanemichi Kanemichi (2nd gen) 21" nagasa signed ubu nakago. Beautiful wavy Hamon which is very clear but subtle (hard to photo). A very well balances sword in nice polish. Much to study here. I'm not sure I'm a big fan of two piece Habaki's (are they easier to make) Hada is not as apparent as others but have to take some time with it. Sorry for soso pictures. Got rid of DSLR and using cell. Any thougts and coments always appreciated as I learn. Thanks for all the board support in learning and a couple of board members who have gone the extra mile to help me learn and avoid dumb mistakes. Darius

A two piece habaki is usually a sign of quality. I am a fan of ubu and the shape is very nice

What next?

Looks like you need a really nice tsuba LOL

Hi Grev, happy you asked . Tsuba definitely in line but now that i have the Kiyomitsu Katana and added this Wakizashi i have the bug for a Hira Zukury Wakizashi with some simple horimono. Then after that I'll have to look at Tanto. Haha. I'm getting ahead of myself now.

Beautiful blade!!!  You have been doing very well with papered blades!!

To get pics of the hamon, I used a semi dark room, dark cover on the sofa/loveseat, stand above it and use the flash.  The flash area will wash out, but the area to the left and right of the flash will usually show the hamon nicely.  Or hold the blade up at an angle in a mostly dark room, take pics with flash.  Takes a while to get used to it, holding it the right angle/distance away for the camera to focus properly.

My new Iehira Katana :) Pics using the above method.

Very nice blade from a well-known and respected group of smiths. Congratulations. You've done very well.

Echoing Grev above: the two-piece habaki is more expensive than the single habaki. They are supposed to enhance an already nice sword.

(To tell the truth, I find them a bit troublesome as well.)

Nice piece! I have a Shodai returning from Japan after papers and polish, they made some very good pieces and their best work in my opinion was in suguha.
