Edward G Posted June 24, 2016 Report Posted June 24, 2016 Good Morning all. Enclosed photos of an item which appears to be Brass with a lead filled backing 1 1/8 inch Long and 3/4 inch height. Looks like a tachi fitting or a menuki possibly. Really not sure what it may be. It was found as a separate loose item at a local gun show. Please give opinions and translation. Thanks. Any help is appreciated. Edward G Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 Hi guys I think it's something off a trophy or award. The first Kanji 賞 can be read asしょう (shō) which is award or prize. Over to you Steve san for the second kanji. Pip Pip 1 Quote
george trotter Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 The kanji read right to left so the first (on right) is read 'Ho' praise, commend... So R to L reads Hosho or prize, award or probably merit award, merit prize. hope this helps. 1 Quote
Edward G Posted June 25, 2016 Author Report Posted June 25, 2016 Thank You all, Sebastien, Malcolm, and George. The translation helps a great deal as to the purpose of this item, any further thoughts on what it may have been originally attached to, possibly a Menuki, or just name plate on item? Thanks Edward G Quote
