Hello Gents,

I'm offering my Jumyo Daisho for sale.

Jumyo comes from a long line of sword smiths based in Mino province working in the Mino Tradition. 1st Generation Jumyo is said to originate from Yamato province, dating back to Einin (1293-1299). Swords from this smith are said to bring good luck and were commonly used as gifts.

The workmanship in this daisho looks to be Sue-Koto or early Shinto period work. Irregular Midare, bold Mokume hada in areas. The Boshi is the real stand out. Both swords are ubu and signed "Jumyo".

Nagasa: Daito 59.2cm
Shoto 42.8cm

Both of these swords are of wakizashi length. The daito being just 0.8 cm under katana length. This is a true daisho, not a mixed matched pair of swords. The workmanship and signatures on each sword are the same. They are both stored in high quality shira-saya with horn koiguchi and solid silver two piece habaki.

Both swords are in an older state of polish and the shoto has some old oil stains. The daito has also had a small repair on the mune at some point.

These swords would benefit greatly from a professional Japanese polish (sashi-komi would be best), new koshirae and papers if one so desired. That was my plan anyway, and still may be. I'm only posting this for sale ad for a few days due to some recent financial strain. If they don't sell in a few days I'm going to take this ad down and gladly keep them.

I'm based in Canada. Depending on your location, I can work with the buyer a bit in regards to the shipping cost.

A great opportunity to own a true daisho for a fair price. $3,500 USD.

Best way to reach me is by email. Thank you.

This is just frustrating seeing this here at this price and no one has jumped on them yet! I would for sure if could. Good luck Travis.

Ridiculous price, taking into account what a katana or wakizashi cost...

Edit to add, thanks to Barry, I should have said an uchigatana and a wakizashi.

Thanks Jean,

You bet. The two swords are priced very well. I appreciate all of the emails and interest today. The swords are all packed up and ready to go. I just need a confirmed buyer and we're good to go!

I made a decision not to post on this forum not on a whim but on a principle...but upon seeing how a fellow Canadian basically getting ripped off, i can't help but offer unsolicited points of observation.  Daisho are imho hard to sell.  Why do we often see fittings and sword sold separately? Because it is rare enough that A ) someone will go all out for the sword or B ) someone will go all out for the fittings...but MUCH rarer still is that someone will go all out for BOTH the sword and the fittings.  This package has imho SO MUCH going for it, in ONE package:

1) good and characteristic workmanship that even a noob like me can say, "Ah yes i saw something like this on a different Jumyo before"

2) a real daisho

3) a good (but not flawless) polish

4) signed too for goodness sake

Now, time for me to rant.  What we ~like~ to believe is that sword features like diamond carats, go up exponentially ie a 2-carat diamond costs a lot more than two 1-carat diamonds...but this is sold like the price of a signed random daito plus a random signed shoto added together, and still no one went for it (oh but people are going for stuff of Ebay!).  Perhaps it is because the daito is not quite long enough, or the mei was signed a little bit off, or that it has no papers etc etc.  But aren't we suppose to collect on artistic merit, and, in this case, historical significance/rarity because of the daisho, not on how long something is or how it was signed?

(sigh)

Sorry, just wanted to rant.  I can't buy this, i made a commitment to stop.  But i really do hope Travis/Mr. Clarke (however you like to be addressed by a 30-something person) can someone survive his financial strain to not sell it at this price.  There's two ways to put this i think: either 1) whoever thinks it's worth less than $2,395 USD does not know what they're getting and is less deserving to get it than someone who does, or 2) Price for sold crap on Ebay is rising...don't know about mid-tier stuff like this but either way the longer you wait the better

some very good points Caleb, I feel for Travis.

I know its hard to sell something you enjoy to pay the bills. its a crying shame no one has bought them yet. but theres was a chap who had a sword go missing with Canada post , this maybe the cause of the hesitation

This daisho is no longer available. I was able to negotiate a trade with a friend! I appreciate all of the inquiries. It was nice to get in touch with a bunch of new collectors anyway. Have a nice weekend gents!
