real is my guess.  Do you know if the stainless navy blades have much differential hardness?  I don't like the color of the kashira at all, but the tsuka-ito and hishi-gami make me say real.  maybe lizard skin under the ito???  You love that copper tsuba huh?  Seems like a lot of money to me (im super cheap), but I don't go for Showa era swords myself, as the prices seem high.

Navy Arsenal stamp at the top of the nakago, not enough view to see which one.

Unusual single hanger. Maybe the other one was removed. Could have had a leather combat cover, but now gone.

Price is actually a little low for a Kai-gunto.

You are just being cautious most likely, and with the quality of forgeries today, rightly so. I'm sure your eye is plenty good enough to see quality in front of it. Don't go too far pal.

Is real but i think it is one of these after war swords...

This sword looks so poor.

No piece of honor for a ijn officer with all of his power.

I would not pay for it....

is it me or does the handle look extra long compared to the blade?  Yeah look at the dimensions: the handle is damn near 1/2 the blade length!  Strange responses from the seller (could be oddly asked questions from the asker too :glee: ), maybe caution IS wise here.  who knows?

Im not certain either way. Stephen I cant wait to have an eye as good as yours mate. The pics arent great either. As Grant said some forgeries are getting are getting tougher to recognize. Nothing wrong with being cautious about spending hard earned money at all. Cheers.

Hi, Late war Kai Gunto. Looks as if tsuba has been cleaned at one time of the black coating they had. Blade is late war stock typical of these types.  Sometimes you do see the fittings of the these dull because they have had a hard life..... like this whole setup. Regards, John
