Spot on Finds Paul,

I have taken the liberty of adding them to the Facebook page "Pre Modern Japanese Books and Illustrations"

There are hundreds of books and scrolls detailed there, just ask to join and you are in.

:)

PS the link to Meizukushi (Kanchi'in-bon) -   http://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/1288371%C2%A0%C2 is dead.

Paul Bowman, the lucky new caretaker of Jean's Oei Yasumitsu, has shared with a lovely article on this sword, to be found in the members section at the bottom of the articles.
Thanks Paul, and congrats on a stunning sword.

Paul has added to his Yasumitsu article, with info on another sword by this smith.
The extra info has been added to the article above, and is well worth a read. Thanks again to Mr Bowman for his constant support and sharing of his research.

Member Uwe has generously supplied us with a fantastic article on a recent exhibition in Japan on Jigane.
This features some of the best photos of schools and jigane I have seen, and even though it is in German, it is easily understood.
Please head to the articles section and check out the bottom link. Thanks Uwe!

Thanks Uwe, Grey Doffin asked for articles to feed the JSS/US Newsletters. Would be great to publish there too.

Best

PS missed the Naotane pics..

Once again, Paul Bowman has generously shared with us some of his articles and thoughts on swords he has examined and studied.\

I find these very useful as it takes you through the thought process when examining a Japanese sword. I recommend everyone take a look at the 3 new articles. They are at the bottom of the articles section in the Members area.
Thanks again Paul, and sorry for the delay

My thanks again to Paul for the new article uploaded. Iyetsugu was a Kaga smith, often mistaken for Aoe workmanship.
Another good read, thanks Paul.

The following NMB thread presents an interesting finding during an internet search for something else:

http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/31578-fascinating-informative-fb-site-on-namban-tsuba-etc/

Here is the text in that thread:

Gentle folk,

Whilst reading the following thread:

http://www.militaria...alphabet-tsuba/

I went looking for a similar tsuba I had seen elsewhere and found this link I hadn't seen before:

https://www.facebook...6199600/?type=3

I'll report my tsuba findings in the first thread above, but on the Facebook page I see Ray Singer, Peter Bleed and Peter Dekker names mentioned as people who have been there, but I've put it here for interest of those who aren't aware of it.  The first item is a photo of CR Boxer.  Clicking on it brings up a slide view of some very, very interesting tosogu amongst other items.

Best regards,

BaZZa.

EDIT:  Just above Boxer's photo is some text I meant to point out, concluding with a link to a free download of CR Boxer's publication "European Influence on Japanese Sword-fittings 1543 - 1853":

I have just added a very thought provoking article written by Paul Bowman on why we study and collect Japanese swords, and their place in the art world.
This should be required reading, and as always is well worth saving. Thanks Paul

I have uploaded the wonderful article on flowers in Japanese art that Mauro P put together for us.
This is a must-read and should be saved for future reference. Thanks Mauro.

An excellent Powerpoint presentation has been shared with us by Malcolm Cox. @mecox
This discusses the evolution of Mino Den and although without the commentary, most of it is self explanatory and contains a huge amount of valuable info.
As the author of the Mino-to book, Malcolm is a wonderful source of info and I would like to thank him for his contributions.
Downloads can be found in the....Downloads....section. Who woulda thunk it? :)
Lots of great articles there and more to come.

Thank you Brian for adding that and the "Etiquette of Seppuku" to the downloads, I must apologize for the image quality of the Metropolitan Museum auction, I have to lay the fault with Christies for the low resolution images.
