Darcy Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 Anyone have a copy of the Natsuo Taikan? I picked up a pair of Natsuo menuki that are in the books and need to get a scan. I can trade a copy of my book to say thanks if anyone has this. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 I have a copy, which one do you need a scan of? Quote
Brian Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 Are they not in Markus's Natsuo books? Also, Ford has the Taikan (of course) You may want to drop him an email. Brian Edit to add: Lol...... you beat me to it Ford Quote
Darcy Posted March 24, 2016 Author Report Posted March 24, 2016 They are in everything. Ford helped. Markus helped previously. Others offered and pointed around until it got to Ford and by then Ford had written already. Nobody got flamed. Nice day on the NMB today. Thanks guys. 2 Quote

Darcy Posted March 25, 2016 Author Report Posted March 25, 2016 Thanks to Markus and Ford, I can post these. The menuki I need to wait for studio light because iPhone is a horrific thing to do to nice art. No. 110 – hatô no zu (波濤図) – Waves/surge, mei “Natsuo” (夏雄), made in Ansei five (1858) gold, katachibori Natsuo’s sword-related sketchbooks depict several sketches for wave motifs. These menuki are small but the waves are expressed vividly and with strength and intensity. Natsuo also made tsuba and kozuka with wave motifs, showing them in a realistic manner and in various forms, e.g. from gentle waves on the sea to wildly swoshing surges. Here the waves are magnificently captured right at the moment they break. (see sword-related sketchbook p. 25 p. 37 and other sketchbook p. 98 p. 100) 3 Quote
