Klop Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Hi all, I recently came across this Sumatran sword of which the shape rang a bell :-) Thought you might enjoy this resemblance as well. Not sure if this blade shape was inspired on Japanese swords or developed independently by the sumatrans (this is late 19th century so well before gunto appeared in Indonesia), I guess the latter. Kind regards, Eric K. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 A standard shape in Southeast Asia. Look for 'Parang' in the internet, you will find many similar shapes especially for hacking knives. Quote
Klop Posted March 27, 2016 Author Report Posted March 27, 2016 Hi Uwe, don't worry, i am well aware that this is not nihonto and certainly didn't mean to suggest or ask that, just wanted to share for enjoyment. No doubt it is of sumatran origin, the forging is typical indonesian. Probably spoils of the Aceh war that came to holland. Best regards, Eric K. 1 Quote
