DirkO Posted March 21, 2016 Report Posted March 21, 2016 Hi,A tsuba of mine has a kanji on each side of the seppa-dai. It's not a signature, more something added later to differentiate between ura and omote (I think?)One side is easy - Jo - 上 - above But the other one has got me beat. I would expect it to be 'below' or 'underside' or something along those lines? These were done very faintly in a shakudo tsuba with kasurakashi karakusa design. Quote
Nobody Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 The 2nd pic. might be "上 (Upper) and strikethrough" --- just a guess. 1 Quote
DirkO Posted March 23, 2016 Author Report Posted March 23, 2016 Thanks Moriyama-san - but I don't really understand what you mean by that? Quote
Brian Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 Are you saying it might have been "upper" and then they changed their mind and crossed it out? Quote
Markus Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 I think so too. See the somewhat thicker "upper" (上) which was then crossed out by four thinner vertical "strokes" (short, long, short, long; from left to right). Quote
DirkO Posted March 23, 2016 Author Report Posted March 23, 2016 Ah ok, now I understand ???? thanks guys Quote
