Okimasa is a famous maker, student of Kotetsu

think i saw this on eBay. Another NMB and i discussed it earlier today. As i recall the seller stated he "was not saying it was from the 1600's" and as i remember there was a description for someone else saying what the signature said but NOT saying it was signed by that person. It seemed to both of us that  the owner/seller was not saying it was made by Okimasa, just that that was the name on the tang. So we were  thinking everyone who saw in hand did not think it was his work from any era. But if it is shoshin then it is a great deal, if your research leads you to think it is genuine and you buy it you will do well

Yes I did a quick search of the Mei and from what little I know and can tell it looked promising. Also Moses Becerra had given a look at it I guess I should try and contact him,I have used his services before....I figure for the price it's worth the gamble plus there is a 14 day return policy which either way I doubt I'll be using lol. This is the closest oshigata I found

It is a daisy chain of people wanting to believe the dream. Once the dream is crushed, they pass the dream on to the next guy.

There are enough people that want to believe that this is their big score that they think it's "worth the chance." Because the answer is not clear to you doesn't mean that the seller and seller before him and so on up the chain of hopeful lottery ticket buyers don't have the answer already.

You have a hamster running around in your head that wants to take the chance, it's telling you it's worth it it's worth it, you'll pay only 10% the price for a Juyo one it's worth it. The same way people run around and buy fake Omori telling themselves, well, at least it's school work and so they buy late period copies and fakes of the real thing and pay 30% thinking they made out like a bandit.

If you buy a brick of yellow colored heavy stuff from a metals dealer or collector who tells you that _a_ they do not stand by the authenticity of this piece and _b_ they give you a price far less than an authentic price then: Why on earth would anyone come to the conclusion that it might be legit? They call it fool's gold for a reason.

That guy has email and is capable of sending a picture to a Benson or me or anyone else. He has access to papers. If not him then why not the guy before him? Or before that? If someone walks it in after cleaning out grandpa's attic it's a different story.

That's metainformation that should be in your brain as a snake which is chasing and trying to eat the valuation hamster. People collect large amounts of these maybe lottery ticket items and end up with all junk that they need to liquidate later on.

If you want the short answer to the question look at the bottom strokes of the Oki character.

With Kotetsu 11 out of 10 are fake. With his primary student only 9 out of 10 are fake. Much better chances.

If the price is of a mumei Shinto sword and you want to collect mumei Shinto swords then you should buy it because everything possible other than that is just upside and you have paid for what you got. But if you're buying dreams of X being Y then get used to disappointment.

I only take limited chances on swords like the one posted. The seller offered a 14days return policy which allows me time so have the sword in hand for physical evaluation and to ask experienced board members questions about the blade.Subsuquently it was returned to the seller on condition problems.im willing to risk 30.00 shipping to learn and maybe find a good but in a sword every now and then....

I am just confused because the initial questions were about whether the blade was legit and to get info on the smith, and the conclusion was you figured it was a fake all along. Nothing negative is intended by it, just that if the conclusion was already known, then the thread is low utility, that's all.

I hear you. I wasn't 100% sure about it being gimei I had hoped there was a chance it wasn't. But I feel any discussion has some value for someone. Maybe not for the seasoned collector but it may have given someone a little insight into collecting dos and dont's :)

Marcello, you must live up to your Miyamoto Musashi quote... LoL

"Develop intuitive judgement and understanding for everything"

For every ten Nagasone Okimasa, there are eleven fakes...

Next time, think of statistics getting a real van gogh on ebay
