Kanbun style: the reading is beyond me, and I would be completely guessing at a meaning - so here goes :) ; maybe some sort of message to invoke martial bravery ("may this sword bring you success in battle" sort of thing).

Haha - yes, that's how I would read it phonetically. Translated word-for-word (or close to it) it would be 

 

For body warrior inability standing this merit/achievement

 

為身戦者不能立其功

 

Now anybody's guess is as good (and hopefully better) than mine.

Stephen's sounds gross... If you think of another word for rooster - that rhymes with rock - and another meaning of that other word. (Just classing up the joint ;) )

 

All kidding aside, I'm looking for a nice blade to start off my Horii collection and this one is pretty exceptional. I thought I had one picked this morning, but unfortunately it was sold.
