seattle1 Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Hello: I have a few naginata and yari that I would like mount on horizontal wall pegs and have been unsure whether the blade should point left or right. From photographs in Japanese publications I have seen them oriented both ways. We know that swords are pointed to the right on stands, the point being to make them slower to get into action if in the house of a host, if not one's own, but how would a yari or naginata be placed in one's own home? Pete Klein Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Not always but mostly pointed in the direction your wife sits... 2 Quote
Guido Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Blades to the left, at least that's how it's done in a dōjō, and how I've seen it in Japanese castles and buke-yashiki IIRC. Quote

Ed Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Arnold, I have always seen them as Guido said, blades to the left. Here is a photo of how they are displayed in Himeji Castle. Quote
