Bruce, this is a shark skin saya. This has more a greenish army look about it. The fittings are blackened. Don't know how good the photo resolution is, but the nodules have a definite diamond shape.

Wow, that’s one outstanding Hamon! Beautiful! Even the mei is gorgeous!

Hi all,

Seen some real gems on this toppic.

So, here is one of my favorite swords in my small collection. Basically because it’s in near mint condition.

Also the kai gunto’s are so nice in general. I had some troubles figuring out the signature, but I believe it says: ‘shirakawa-shin tegarayama masashige’. If I’m mistaken, please let me know.

Thanks Yura. I didn't see much but it looks good. You need a strong light or sunlight to bring the hada and hamon out, to see more.  :)

WWII Kai-Gunto Naval Officer's Sword with Rising Sun tsuba. The blade is finely forged, but the mekugi is in a position that makes it difficult to remove without damage.

I've never seen the extended Ishizuki on a Kaigunto, only on Gunto.

Indeed the owner certainly went to town on the Koshirae.

Wow, thank you Neil and Trystan for showing.

What is the collective noun is for Ishizuki?

A scrape or drag of Ishizuki?

Just getting ready to leave for the airport, Tokyo and DTI, amongst other things...........  :)

Type 98 with an unusual variant of tassel with an almost Herringbone stitch. Lovely quality Ito, thick silver plate seppa, Mon and Shakudo(?) Habaki. The blade is Shin Shinto with Choji Hamon.
