John A Stuart Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 A nice tight design. Wakizashi size? John Quote
general_piffle Posted December 17, 2015 Author Report Posted December 17, 2015 Glad you like it! Not wakizashi but katana. Quote
Greg F Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 Hi Joel, looks a little small for katana tsuba but nice design. Cheers. Greg Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 Umetada Shigeyoshi I believe. At $3200 Stephen. A little rich, but, a better example than some. John Quote
Brian Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 Yes, but he has a great eye for quality. 1 Quote

general_piffle Posted December 18, 2015 Author Report Posted December 18, 2015 It's a beauty isn't it. If I had the surplus I'd be sorely tempted. Quote
MauroP Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 The same tsuba before repatination? http://www.seiyudo.com/tu-070515.htm In my opinion even a better condition with a little of urushi remnant. Bye, Mauro Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 Probably just different lighting. The paper is from July of this year (could be either April or June shinsa) and it is improbable that a re-patination was done in such a short time frame. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 ...and it is improbable that a re-patination was done in such a short time frame. Why do you think that? Pete. I agree that the apparent difference is merely the lighting though. Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 Simple logistics. The paper was just issued to (most likely) the dealer in Japan in July, then had to be listed for sale, discovered and purchased. Travel time either by EMS or possibly he was in Japan and carried it back. As Eric was at the San Francisco show in early August there was added down time. Now then, we are looking at about three months at best to have it worked on. The patina is good therefore if re-patinated it was done by a proper professional. We all know that anyone so qualified have items in queue and iron re-patination is not done over night to be accomplished properly, ergo, improbable. Please note I did not say impossible. SH 1 Quote
jason_mazzy Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 Eric says there was no repatination just bad photos on the site. Quote
