Bruce Pennington Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 I've recently picked up a Navy gunto with an old blade, probably pre-1599. One of the seppas has a mark I can't find a translation for. Anyone recognize this charactor? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 13, 2015 Author Report Posted December 13, 2015 Sorry, pic didn't come up. I'll try again. Quote
lonely panet Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Its a manufacturers mark, iv got on a 2nd removable hanger for a shin gunto (most prob for a type 94) I don't know the meaning Quote
SteveM Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Well, I can recognize the "31" The mark on the bottom looks like the kanji 下 (lower, bottom, down, etc..) only it has been reversed. Maybe the photo is reversed? Edit: Actually, I guess if the photo were reversed the numerals would be in reverse also... Hmmm. Maybe just a manufacturing anomaly? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 13, 2015 Author Report Posted December 13, 2015 Steve, that might make sense, even with the Type 94 second hanger. It could be marking the piece (seppa or hanger) that is lower than the other one! Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 16, 2015 Author Report Posted December 16, 2015 Interesting update, I just got back from a Japan trip and showed the image to 4 Japanese flight crew. None of them recognized it. So it must be a manufacturer's symbol. Quote
SAS Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Looks similar to the character "niu" but I have no idea what that means or if it is that character. Quote
