Hello everyone. This is my first post. I was looking at a Tanto that has been in my family for sometime and was hoping one of you experts could give me some opinions and info on it.

Thank you.post-3486-0-23427600-1449959147_thumb.jpgpost-3486-0-60579700-1449959232_thumb.jpg

Hi mystery poster,

looks like a broken/cut down ww2 sword, most likey a kai gunto with maybe a anti rust blade (stainless or tenzen)

its been reshaped for the most likely purpose of a war trophy or tourist piece.

The date side says ShoWa JuKyu (19th year - 1944)

The Tachimei says ChikuShi (old name for Kyushu) followed by MatsuBayashi.... This is almost certainly MatsuBayashi Masashige of Nagasaki, a proper JoJo Saku gendaitosho who was Special Honour Noted Seat in 1941..

I think the blade was broken/cut in the middle and this is the tang portion with a new kissaki shaped on it (looks a bit "Chinese" for sure). Pity...

Hope this helps,
