Translation Assistance- Tanto Mei

Uploading for a friend- he recently purchased this tanto, which seems really weird. The koshirae and lack of details in the blade make me think it's fake, but if it is- it's convincing enough.

The "sayagaki" is unlike anything i've seen, the pictures i have are not good enough to give him a proper opinion.

any help recognizing it or translation would be much appreciated.

Real tanto. Meiji period export mounts. Sometimes with junk blades, but I think you will find this is a real blade with hamon and hada.

Not a great blade, but real.

Well, gee. This looks like a nice little rig. The signature is a challenge. . .. Kane somebody, but it certainly is the same as the sayagaki which is also illegible to me.The fittings look like a nice little toppei outfit. It seems to deserve a good restoration. Show us the tsuka, please.

兼若　Kanewaka, would be my guess. There are a several generations of Kanewaka. I couldn't tell you which one this is.
