Fuuten Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 I could've sworn i posted here already, but now the link is working. Haven't seen it before. Quote
Brian Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Yes, link fixed already, comment removed....that's why we mods get paid the big bucks Quote
b.hennick Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Looks to be buffalo horn rather than tsukaito. Never seen before - I've been at this since 1976. Quote
Brian Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Another case of "because I can..." Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 That is keen, nifty and swell all at once! Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 I agree with Barry- most probably Buffalo horn. This design is uncommon but I have seen a scant few over the years. I recall an outstandingly beautiful one (by Shibata Zeshin) done in clear lacquered bamboo decorated with tiny ants in gold and multicolor Makie. Steven K Quote
Grey Doffin Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Anyone ever see wooden tsuka-ito? Grey 1 Quote
Drago Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 Oh, nice one, Grey! I think we discussed a tsuka similar to yours with iron ito before (not wire!). But I can't find the topic. EDIT: Ah, here it is: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/13902-very-unusual-tsuka/?hl=%2Biron+%2Btsukamaki Quote
Guido Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 The description says it's sea turtle shell (鼈甲, bekkō). 1 Quote
Heringsdorf Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 How would you make the wooden tsuka-Ito? Quote
Grey Doffin Posted November 27, 2015 Report Posted November 27, 2015 Only way I can think to do it is to carve the ito completely and then slide it, along with the menuki, into place. Grey Quote
