Brian Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Strongly recommend reading this thread: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/17127-when-the-collecting-is-over The last thing I would ever do is give any of my items to a museum. May as well toss them in most cases. 90% of the stuff sits in drawers, uncared for, and not displayed. One nice Japanese sword in a museum here was taken off display to rearrange the display...and 2 years later, they will not say where it is or even if it is gone. You seem not to want to keep it and appreciate it yourself at home, so the logical thing would be to sell it and let a collector preserve, study and appreciate it. Of course you could always donate it to the forum, where it will be appreciated more than in a museum Quote
Jean Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Long long time ago (once upon a time - in the 80's), I translated for Robert Burawoy articles which were in included in the English quaterly edition of the "Bulletin de l'Association Franco-Japonaise". One of this article was about Japanese portable altars. Fantastic artefacts inlaid with mother-of-pearl, gold.... Musée Guimet bought one of these in auction for about 122 k€. It disappeared in the Museum basement/reserves and I have never seen it displaid.... 1 Quote

Didn't know that, I had a subscription and still have all English language issues (neatly bound, even)! Quote
Stephen Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Right Brian, that would be one lucky prize draw win. My self it would give hours of enjoyment, i really think one would find something new each time held. 1 Quote
