Greg F Posted December 8, 2015 Report Posted December 8, 2015 Yeah absolutely cool! Would be good to some more pics when you get it. All the best. Greg Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 8, 2015 Author Report Posted December 8, 2015 Would you have Tsunokuchi installed, like on the picture? Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 8, 2015 Report Posted December 8, 2015 No. You have a winner and my opinion is to just leave it alone. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 8, 2015 Author Report Posted December 8, 2015 You are right, I won't have tsunokuchi installed. The only thing that bugs me a little is the oil stain on the back. Quote
Greg F Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 Yes I would leave it Max, besides that would be more time before you get to hold it in hand. Cheers. Greg Quote
Teimei Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 The stain is not a problem. If it is just choji oil it will vanish in a few weeks. Quote
SanTouSu Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 That is really cool and very nice of him. I believe Seto lives in Fukuoka....did your family take it to him by hand? Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 10, 2015 Author Report Posted December 10, 2015 No, my family lives in Kyoto. They send it to him via express mail. But they spoke to him over the phone several times. They told me that he is a very nice guy, and that he is still currently making swords. 2 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 I am really happy for you on this. I don't know that it could've turned out any better! Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 10, 2015 Author Report Posted December 10, 2015 Joe, thank you very much for your input. I appreciate and value it very much, especially since you are the expert on Gendaito / Shinsakuto. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 That's twice that someone has said that. Thanks and all, but I can assure you that you're applying the word "expert" far too liberally. I have learned a couple things and might know a little more than a few, but an expert, I am not. 1 Quote
Ed Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Great thread, glad to see you were able to have the sayagaki done by the smith himself. You are lucky to have such nice family, and to be located in Japan, wow. Quote
SanTouSu Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 I'm very happyy for you. The fact you received personal authentication from Seto san himself is really special. I'm kind of in the same boat as you...I'm awaiting a Seto Yoshihiro katana which I picked up in Kyoto this past month. Good Luck on yours. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 I'd love to see pics when you get it in. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 11, 2015 Author Report Posted December 11, 2015 As soon as I receive the Tanto, I will take some pictures and post them here. Quote

Hello Santos, Do you have any pictures of your Yoshihiro Katana? When was it made? Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 11, 2015 Author Report Posted December 11, 2015 Hello Joe, Did you see this Kasama katana on Aoi art? http://www.aoijapan.com/katana-kasama-ikkansai-shigetsugu-saku Quote
Greg F Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Hello Max, that kasama katana is pleasing to the eye. Santos I also would love to see some pics of your Yoshihiro katana. Congrats guys. Greg Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Hello Joe, Did you see this Kasama katana on Aoi art? http://www.aoijapan.com/katana-kasama-ikkansai-shigetsugu-saku Yes - It used to be mine. Quote
SanTouSu Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Max, The sword was made Heisei 10 (1998). The inscription's writing style is same as yours...except that it includes the family name Seto. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 13, 2015 Author Report Posted December 13, 2015 Thank you Santos, My understanding is that he adds the name Seto on katana length swords, but due to the shortness of Tanto he only writes the name Yoshihiro. Quote
SanTouSu Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Yes, I believe you're correct Quote
Greg F Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Hi Santos, any chance of more blade pics? Please Greg Quote
SanTouSu Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 Hey Greg, Having trouble uploading picture...says its too big. They're 7.5MG...let me figure out something. Sword is shinogi-zukuri with koshi zori....and choji gunome midare hamon. Quote
Brian Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 Google "free image resizing" Your pics shouldn't need to be larger than 400k Quote
b.hennick Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 I find that if I set the resolution to 120 dpi and the largest dimension to 1200 pixels I get a reasonable ten inch image that fits on all current screens. The image at that size meets the board's size limitations and is easy to do. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted December 23, 2015 Author Report Posted December 23, 2015 Update! Finally received the Seto Yoshihiro Tanto today. I must say that this blade is gorgeous, in my opinion. Here are some pictures I just took. 3 Quote
Brian Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 You have every right to be proud. It is a beautiful blade, with oshigata, sayagaki and in full polish. And comes as a gift from family. That ticks ALL the boxes in my opinion. 1 Quote
