Hello:

Yesterday the mail brought the JSS/US Newsletter, Vo. 47, No.4 (July-August, 2015), containing an excellent piece titled Restoring Armour and Swords - Contrasting Viewpoints, by Ian Bottomley, F.A.B. Coutinho, B. Hennick and W.B. Tanner. This piece focused on swords, the previous Newsletter focused on armor. Both articles brought fresh insight to topics often raised under several heading in the NMB. Check the JSS/US site for Membership information.

HI Brian:

The 2014 series of Newsletters are available on Lulu as a PDF. Once 2015 issues are all sent we will put up the 2015 Newsletters for sale as a PDF.

Took me a while to find it:

Barry,

Since I already pay subscription yearly, and pay for postage....doesn't seem right to me to pay more for electronic versions.

In that case, they should work out how much postage forms part of the membership, and allow us to deduct that from the yearly dues, and we'll just buy the Lulu version.

Electronic versions should be part of the options (that goes for the NCJSC too) with a reduction in postage costs for both parties. Those that want a hard copy can just print it out or have it bound by a copy shop.

Hi Brian,

We have discussed this at our board meetings; especially at the meeting at which we decided to make prior year issues available as e-books.  It is not as simple as it would seem.  If we were to do what you request, every member who opts for the e-book will raise the cost of printing per copy of the paper version (fewer printed, more $ per copy) a bit.  If enough members opt for the e-book we loose our non-profit mailing status for domestic post and that will be very expensive for us.  We don't think all our members (and especially not all our Life Members who have been promised paper issues for life) would be happy with an e-book only option so we have to continue to print.  If costs go up the price of membership has to go up and we're trying to keep it low.

I realize that you, with your country's postal woes, have a special need for current e-book issues, but for many if not the majority of our members, going that route presents problems.

Grey,

Then consider the regular system to remain as is, but for maybe an extra $20 a year, the member gets added to an email list and his issue is emailed to him along with the printed copy.
