Hi

I found an interesting yoroidoshi that is said to be a rare example of soshu hiromitsu niji mei and was wonderinf if the mei is gimei. To me, it seems definately gimei. Although the blade looks Soshu style and nicely made but seems gimei more now.

Another interesting fact by the description is that the two mons are meeting each other of fuchi kashira as if it's a wedding ceremonial doshi It would be very interesting tanto if that holds the truth.

If anyone could let me know anything, it would be appreciated. Based on the research, I can't really seem to find a good example of Hiromitsu's niji mei or his yoroidoshi and I was also wondering if Saku was really used on his niji mei. Thank you very much.

Nice blade, poorly cared for, needs a polish. Can't say anything about shoshin mei, but nice package needing TLC. Why do people insist on touching the blade and leaving fingerprints?

Hi. Steve

Yes. It's looks quite nice and wondering what would be unfolding after the polishing. A genuine Shoshu Hiromitsu with older niji mei would get kokuho level so it should be gimei or something else. Others would know better what it is. Also, my understading about yoroidoshi is that it appeared in sengoku muromachi period so 1200ad niji Hiromitsu should have no relation to yoroidoshi? But I just asked it for the study . This sword came to the market first time from an US Navy officer's estate so it quite makes a sense that some of fingerprints are left on the blade. Sad it's gone at quite ridiculous price.

I think it's gimei.

It's extremely unlikely to start with.

Next look at the work. It has a few attributes that might be considered to fall in line with soshu attributes but if you study old soshu you'll see differences in the hamon.

I also don't think the signature looks right. I looked at the work first though. Also it's not mitsu mune. The work in the blade, verifies Mei. Which in this case I feel it does not.

Just my .02 and probably worth what you paid for it.

I think it would greatly benefit from from just oiling the blade and then removing the oil and re oiling it.

Hi Jason. I personally like the look of the fuchi kashira, Interesting design with the two mon. I would like to hear what thats about also. Would be good to see after a polish. Enjoy your new blade.
