docliss Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Are any of you able to advise me how important is the presence of shitodome in the kashira when submitting fuchi-gashira for shinsa? Also, would modern shitodome be considered as a fault in these circumstances? With many thanks, John L. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Have submitted F/K to shinsa without shitodome successfully, so it's not necessary. However, and this is mostly conjecture, if it's a very fine set and results are important it would be advisable to submit the set/kashira with shitodome, and in a display box for the best presentation. Quote Also, would modern shitodome be considered as a fault in these circumstances? Should not be an issue as long as the quality and style is on par with the f/k set. Quote
Rich T Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I wonder about modern shitodome. As far as I know, if a tsuka has brand new Ito, no matter how good, it is not original and will not pass shinsa. At least with the NTHK. I think this is true also for the NBTHK. Items with multiple parts offered for shinsa (tsuka, koshirae etc) must be original. I assume then, based on that that the Shitodome would also fail, if they can be proven as new. Also I too believe that fuchikashira would pass without shitodome. As to whether that would effect their score, I am unsure. I might ask about all that. Best Richard Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Rich, when it comes to wrap the bottom line is it has to be absolutely right to pass the NBTHK. For shitodome I'm talking about a custom made set as well. Keep in mind custom made does not necessarily ensure quality. Quote
Rich T Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 thanks for the information Franco. I am not surprised and I can image many failing, this is probably why I thought the NBTHK would not pass re wraps. All the best Rich Quote
