manfrommagnum Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 Is there any way of knowing what samurai soheishi Sôten made his tsuba for? Like clans in general and title or name in particular? Quote
Geraint Posted October 13, 2015 Report Posted October 13, 2015 Dear Michael. I think the answer to your question is, "No", unless you find one with an inscription to a particular person. All the best. Quote
manfrommagnum Posted October 14, 2015 Author Report Posted October 14, 2015 That is what i thought. But i was hoping someone back then kept records. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted October 15, 2015 Report Posted October 15, 2015 His patron was the Kawakita family of Hikone han in Omi. In theory you could do a study of the history and culture of Omi and Hikone in the 1700's and from that you might infer the tastes of the people around him while he was working. You might discover how his work became popular in Edo or if there were any custom pieces made for Hikone samurai. -t Quote
