bmoore1322 Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 This tag is attached to an shirasaya. I was told that it has the ownership person(s) info on it, from when swords were confiscated in Japan at the end of the war. Please any, and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Brian, the photo is upside down and not very clear. Perhaps try again with an enlarged photo and then in the TRANSLATION section. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Well, at least I can tell you it's upside down... Quote
Jim P Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Hi Brian, I cleaned the photo up for you, do not know if it’s a type of surrender tag as it would have been rare to see them on a shira-saya. Quote
Robert Mormile Posted October 3, 2015 Report Posted October 3, 2015 Brian:The name of the soldier is as follows: 古林 貞三郎 Kobayashi Sadasaburo (It also could be Teisaburo but I don’t think so.) I can only make out the last two characters of the place name which are: 椎尾 Shiio The other characters are obscured or missing from the top of the paper tag. I think the name would be a good place to start research and use the address information to confirm his identity if that is what you are trying to do. Best Wishes, Robert 3 Quote
