Christophe Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Hi every one, I come across something that seems to be a hybrid between jutte and Yari. I had never heard or seen something like that. The seller tell me its monojidai period, which period I found no information on the internet or in the books I have.Does anyone have information on this item? Size : 115 cm.Any information or comments are welcome. In thanking you in advance. Quote
Geraint Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Hi Chris(?) Jidai mono probably used to indicate what we might call a 'period' piece, which in the UK means, "I'm pretty sure it's old but I can't tell how old." I don't recognise it but as a parrying weapon it is almost useless. The quality is low and the finish is rough so if I were you I would pass on this one. Have a scroll through this page, you will find all sorts of interesting stuff. http://www.aoijapan.com/fittings/tsukaothers All the best. Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Good morning Chris and Geraint., Call me Ishmael... But, I can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with early Japanese Whaling?? Quote
Christophe Posted August 27, 2015 Author Report Posted August 27, 2015 Hi Geraint. thank you for your opinion. I do not have the attention to buy it, it was just curiosity, and especially surprise. A friend just tell me that may be the "tsukamaki" was put after, and that the iron part followed suit in a wooden handle, like a traditional spear. "Hand make weapon" that we can sometime found in the countryside and used by farmers to repel attacks. Maybe another trail ?I will try to found more info. Hi MalcomI visited several museum dedicated to the whaling. Taiji Whale Museum as a Wakayama, and I have not seen an object like the, I do not think it is linked to the whaling. Thank you for taking the time to answer me. Christophe Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Those of us who train with jitte would shudder at trying to use this...this monstrosity! Ken Quote
