Nobody Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 http://s215.photobucket.com/albums/cc24 ... uba2-1.jpg Hi, The kanji on the tsuba are “出硎閃々光芒如花 二腰両腕一割若瓜â€. I found that they are identical with the Setsudan-mei (截断銘) on a katana of Suishinshi Masahide (水心子正秀). See the item No. 28 in the following list on the NBTHK web site. http://www.touken.or.jp/museum/shintoumeisakuten.html http://www.touken.or.jp/english/display%20list.html Quote
denlong Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 Hi; Thank You ! Does this imply that the tsuba was made for this sword, or at the same time as the sword ? Thanks again Dennis Long Quote
Nobody Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 The latter part of the Setsudan-mei (cutting test record) says that it smoothly swept two waists and both hands like a fresh melon. Although I am unsure about the former part, that may be something like.......... After polish, it sparkles and the crepuscular rays look like a flower. Anyway, when the tsuba was made, the description of the Setsudan-mei had been known. But I do not know if there was a direct relationship between the sword and the tsuba. Quote
