Stephen Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 MANY a cloud formation the muse of many smiths, would be nice to have a section of other shots that remind us of nihonto. Mino den Quote
Brian Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 I like these. The top one really is a beautiful hamon, complete with hataraki Brian Quote
christianmalterre Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 Very nice! "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. - Albert Einstein [1879-1955] Quote

drjoe Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 i often think of hamon when i look at clouds... this one seems like a nice bizen ichimonji: this one maybe a more subdued saka choji-midare? Quote

gauze3539 Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Do you live in Ca? I saw a nice sanbosugi on the sky but badly couldn't take a pic. Nice! Quote
Alex A Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 "i often think of hamon when i look at clouds..." I often think of clouds when i look at hamon Killed many an hour looking at hamon whilst flying hehe 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Killed many an hour looking at hamon whilst flying Yeah, the flak when I was flying over Vietnam made me think of hamon, too, Alex - & there was a lot more of it that I didn't want to take the time to look at! Ken Quote
Alex A Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Hey Ken, i bet nothing ruined a Suguha hamon like a Mig Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 It wasn't the MIGs I was worried about; they usually stayed away from our Phantoms. Mostly those damn flying telephone poles they kept throwing at me! The contrails the SAMs left weren't just ashi, believe me!! Ken Quote
sohei Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Wow, you guys are going to love the next translation the JSSUS is doing for it's fall or end of the year issue. It's over 20 pages we have translated into English about "The Fascination of Midareba". Talks all about the different hamon, what the correct name is for the sutle variations and which smith made them his primary focus. It is going to be a great article with pictures. If you haven't joined the JSSUS, join today and get this excellent article as part of your membership. They even mention the clouds influencing the smith on his choice of hamon. Mike 2 Quote
Ron STL Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Looking forward to enjoying the article, Mike. It'll be interesting and also thought provoking, I'm sure. I also wondered if smiths received inspiration from cloud formations. Back around 1986 there was a major sword event held in Hawaii and a working slob, I couldn't afford to attend. I recall sitting on my patio enjoying a particular Ichimonji-choji-looking cloud formation that made me wish... Ron STL Quote
Loco Al Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Okay, this isn't exactly representative of a hamon. More like utsuri maybe. Alan Quote
Surfson Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 I did see a Uma No Ha hamon that nobody mentioned. Good posting Dr. Fox! Quote
Dr Fox Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Thank you Robert, so simple I didn't expect any comments, but always welcome . Quote
