Heringsdorf Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 Hello, I just picked up this Kogatana from a dealer in Japan. I don't have any reference material on Yoshihara's mei. Is this his signature? The date on the Kogatana is 1974 I believe, but I can't read the rest. Any help on translation and on authenticity of this signature would be greatly appreciated. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 As far as validating, take a look online. There is a LOT to check yourself and it could be some fun. You could also reach out to Paul Martin (http://www.thejapanesesword.com/) who may be able to verify or have the smith verify the blade himself. What shop did you buy it from, if you're willing to tell? Many of them will give their honest opinion to validity of their products. You could always ask them their opinion as well. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted July 17, 2015 Author Report Posted July 17, 2015 Hello Joe, I got this Kogatana from e-sword CO., LTD Masayuki Hirako I'm not familiar with this dealer, is he trustworthy? So I could just contact Paul Martin and ask him about this kogatana? Thank you. Quote
Pete Klein Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 http://www.e-sword.jp/ This is a very well established business. I doubt seriously they would mis-represent. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 Pete's right - they're a very good dealer. You can ask Paul as well if you feel the need after your research. Quote
