paul griff Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 Hello, I would be most grateful if anyone has recent experience of posting swords from the U.K to the U.S recently, if so any advice would be appreciated. The sword is a shin gunto made to traditional methods in 1943 ( see wanted ads for shin gunto ). Regards, Paul. Quote
pcfarrar Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 The only option from the post office is parcelforce and you can't insure it. If it goes missing or is damaged there is nothing you can do about it. You should be ok but there is always a risk. You can use a fine art shipper but it wouldn't be worth it on a sword of that value. Also the post office prohibited items leaflet showing a knife has now been removed and replaced with a gun thanks to this guy from Wessex blades. 1 Quote
paul griff Posted July 10, 2015 Author Report Posted July 10, 2015 Hello, Thank you for the prompt reply and information. I have seen a decline in the quality of the U.K,s postal service especially since privatisation so this may be the final "nail in the coffin" for me. The buyer would have to take all the risks and to be honest this doesn't sit well with me. Regards, Paul.. Quote
reeder Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 It's a great blade and deal, and the person's ad you posted it on should snap it up. It's a hair over what they want to spend but well worth going over budget for. Quote
Alex A Posted July 11, 2015 Report Posted July 11, 2015 Hi Peter, why cant this sword be insured with parcelforce?, thought you could add insurance upto a maximum of £2500 at extra cost. A big jump though, from £56 Global priority to around £160 Global priority (with insurance) Quote
