I'm visiting Paris late next month and wanted to know whether there were any museums with tosogu on display. I know we have some French members and would appreciate their advice.

Merci.

Dear Justin,

Very few museum in Paris when we come to Nihonto or Tosogu.....

The only one I know is MUSEE GUIMET - Musée Guimet in its Japanese section

It is very close the EIFFEL TOWER....

Hopping it will help

Best regards

A few swords on display of which, from memory, a sue Koto Bizen and a Nagamitsu (THE NAGAMITSU). Nothing exciting about the tsuba, merely average seldom good. Some stickers indicating schools .... were lost and not replaced. I asked why, the answer was : too expensive (I hesitated between LOL or crying in front of such incompetency). I surely won't give them my collection.

Forgot to ask if there are any antique dealers in Paris selling tosogu? I heard of one near the Louvre, but cannot find anything on the web.

Hello Justin,

A little precision about Musee Guimet.

The best way to visit Paris is to use the subway, le Metro, and the nearest station on line 9 towards Pont de Sevres, is Alma-Marceau.

The main exit leads one side of the big square and Musee Guimet is on the opposite side, behind the central statue of the square.

Regarding the Japanese art dealers, there are only three Japanese dealers offering tosogu and kodogu inside Paris.

In Marchee au Puces you can find one or two others. And I know very well a french polisher having some nice pieces (P. Sabbah).

If you want to contact me for my phone number, send me PM at marc.broquin@free.fr.

Best regards

Marc

P.S. : The Louvre dealer is now in Le Village Suisse between the station Dupleix and the station Ecole Militaire. He is open only on Saturday and Sunday.

For all people visiting Paris, since the terrorist attacks to the magazine, it´'s forbiden enter in any museum, included Guimet with a bag bigger than a woman's bag. Even if you want to leave in the lockers or cloackroom they didn't take it.
