marivo Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Hello, is it possible to cover Hagire with Horimono carving? Second question, is this an old wakizashi with Horimono ?? Signature of Hiromitsu Gimei? Quote
Grey Doffin Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Horimono are carved above the hamon, not in the yakiba. Not possible to cover a ha-giri with hori without raising a red flag. Horimono often are added to blades with openings to disguise the flaws. Yes; that is an old wakizashi with horimono. Grey Quote
marivo Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 Is de Horimono from the same date or is it carved in much later? Does it make a sword more or less valuable? Quote
paulb Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 From what can be seen in the images the horimono is not very good quality and possibly (probably) added later. Such additions can detract from the value as in all things it depends on the original quality of the sword, the quality of the carving also the reason for having the horimono applied. Quote
Marius Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 The placement is awkward. Most likely carved to hide flaws. Quote
Brian Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 ..ignoring the fact that the whole mei appears to be an afterthought. Brian Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Pretty clearly IMO "camouflage" horimono added later to hide flaws... The problem is that nothing can be added now to hide this horimono. Quote
