reeder Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Picked up a new camera and trying to play with different lighting and angles to capture details. I definitely need more practice, but I'm happy with how some of the photos turned out. It sure beats what my iPhone can produce! I wonder how much picture quality I lost by reducing the image sizes to post here. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 You didn't lose a lot of quality, Brandon, but your depth-of-field (DOF) needs some work. Try using more light - sunlight is good when you're first shooting - & increase your f-stop to at least f/8 & preferably f/16. Depending on which camera you're using, you may be able to see a preview of your DOF through the lens. Ken Quote
reeder Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks for the pointers. I've got tons of lighting on them, but the camera goes dark when I try to take photos. Found where I can edit them and lighten them up a bit. Also found where to increase the f-stop. They're a little better, but I was only able to manage a couple decent ones out of quite a few pictures. Just need more practice and figuring out the camera and set up. Here's 2 more of the Yasunori. reeder Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Posted June 12, 2015 Few Nagamitsu pictures where it's a little easier to see the activity. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 Better, Brandon, & it's obvious that you're using a smaller f-stop, but you can still see that very little of the blade is really in sharp focus. So add even more light so things don't get dark on you, & keep trying. Yeah, it does take practice, but it's not like you're using up film these days.... If your camera has a preview feature, you can use that; otherwise, just stop as far down as you can (f/8 to f/16), take the shot, & then check it out on your computer screen. Ken Quote
