Heringsdorf Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Hello, I recently purchased this Tanto, and would like some feedback/opinion from the more experienced forum members about this Tanto. Is the mei authentic or gimei, what is the age and quality of this piece? It has JTK brown certificate from April 2015 And a NTHK certificate also from 2015 claiming it to be 2nd generation Kanenaga from tenbun era. Thanks. Quote
Marius Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Hm.. Your pictures are thumbnail size. This is not a tanto, but a wakizashi. Sold by katana-maeda on eBay. Good seller and the sword has papers. The NTHK shinsa has deemed the signature genuine. We are surely not going to contradict the verdict of a shinsa, so not sure what you ask of us Enjoy your sword Quote
Heringsdorf Posted June 8, 2015 Author Report Posted June 8, 2015 Hello Marius, Thank you for the reply. Yes I got this blade from Katana Maeda. I was asking abut its mei and quality because I read that JTK certificate is not reliable, is that true? I also read that the NTHK has lately issued Kantei to sword which the NBTHK has rejected due to hagire and other issues. Currently I don't have better pictures since the wakizashi is still in Japan. Marius Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 JTK, is that this long defunct organisation? Or a group of dealers from Osaka? I can't recall. I cannot comment on any alleged NTHK blunders, but, to be honest, the NBTHK has allegedly also made a few, according to people infinitely more competent and experienced than me. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted June 8, 2015 Author Report Posted June 8, 2015 JTK is the group from Osaka. Led by Yukinobu Kobayashi. Quote
Marius Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Maximilian, If this is what I think it is (a photo would help greatly) it is not worth the paper it is written on. At least they can read the signature The NTHK is another story, although papers are... just educated opinions of a shinsa panel. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted June 9, 2015 Author Report Posted June 9, 2015 Here are some pictures of the JTK certificate. They issue a blue and brown colored one. Quote
