Came accross these menuki, signed Yasuchika and with kao.

Would the more experienced forum members please comment on this set?

Is it authentic or gimei? And what is its aproximate age?

It has NTK papers, but I read that they are not accepted by most.

Thanks.

You are not going to find fittings by THE Yasuchika on eBay. No need to comment further on that aspect.

Ok quality, but not fantastic.

Could this not be a later generation Yasuchika?

As far as I can tell the mei and kao look genuine as per Toso Kodogu Meiji taikan

They currently are in NBTHK shinsa in Japan.

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I really think you should just wait until you get the shinsa results from the NBTHK if you want to know more about these menuki. I personally don't find them attractive at all but they are outside of my area of collecting.

The NTK has a very bad reputation in my book which is only amplified recently by the number of fraudulent auctions on eBay and other sites claiming that these NTK papers are in fact NBTHK papers or NBTHK chairman papers. I was meaning to start a warring topic about these fraudulent auctions but never gotten around to it until I read your post which gave me extra motivation.

Hi David,

I saw those wrong auctions too. I even send the guy a message pointing out to him that those weren't NBTHK certificates.

He claimed that he didn't know that!

Concerning the menuki, I understand that you don't like them. Everybody has a different taste in things, I actually find them different and unique. That's why I bought them. I had Markus Sesko look at them and he found them to be of good quality and probably made by one of the later Yasuchika generations.

No problem we all have limited funds and need to focus on specific areas to collect. I hope you find the shinsa educational and helpful.
