nihonto1001 Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 I came across this blade with a very unusual nakago. It looks to be a stainless Kai Gunto blade in Shin Gunto mount. Everything is authentic and I have no reason to believe the blade was swapped. I am not sure what the reason for the cut out in the nakago is. Perhaps it was decommissioned as a Kai Gunto and they cut out some sort of stamp. Odd place for a stamp though. Any insight? Quote
Mark Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 maybe a transitional blade? Made so it could to be mounted in late '44 mounts with 2 holes, or the earlier gunto mounts? Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 Its for the screw on the kabutogana. The nakago is long or the tsuka is short. Quote
nihonto1001 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 Are there any other examples of a stainless blade in Shin Gunto koshirae? Quote

nihonto1001 Posted May 20, 2015 Author Report Posted May 20, 2015 Welded? I think it is the photograph. However, it is worth checking. Gentlemen, thanks for the info. Quote
