Justin Grant Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Showa 3rd Year (date, roughly 1928) on the left photo Yamamoto Saku (made) on the right photo. I'm not a sword person, so others may chime in. Quote
hxv Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Richard, Something seems odd with the nakago. Hoanh Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Hoanh's right. The nakago and the "chiseling" of the mei looks very suspicious. Can you post photos of the sword? Quote
leo Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Dear Rich, Mei translation: "Throw me into a furnace asap, I am a chinese fake" Quote
Jean Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Rich,Here is a link. I want you to go through all the nakago pictures and tell me if you find one looking even remotely to yours. The website I am attaching countains scores of Katana/wakizashi/tanto.First thing, begin to educate yourself by reading a few books and looking at the real thing.First lesson: All angles are crisps in Nihonto, the sides of the tang/nakago are crisp and not wavy unless if heavily rusted not talking of the butt tang (nakago jori)...http://www.aoijapan.comEdit to add: Japanese smiths are very proud and take their pride on the nakago finish, yasurime files...
