Grey Doffin Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I've just learned that Craig Harris who used to have Bridge of Dreams Books and who for a long time was the most important Nihonto book seller in the US has passed away. Craig was a great guy and a good friend; he will be missed. Grey Quote
b.hennick Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I too will miss Craig. I have a large number of books that I purchased over the years from him. I also continue to enjoy the fittings I bought from him. He was a treat to deal with. Quote
Fuuten Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him, but if i had, I'm sure I'd feel the same way. Rip. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 This is sad news!. Thanks for sharing, Grey. Craig was an interesting guy who moved collecting forward with his book business and with his generally interesting insights. He had a very good eye and encouraged serious interest in nippon-to. paulb Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I also bought a number of books from Craig. He was always very helpful and easy to deal with. My condolences to his family and friends Quote
Henry Wilson Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I met Craig about 10 years ago during the first ever KTK convention in Tokyo. I knew he was unwell for some time but I am very saddened by his passing. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Quote
Pete Klein Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Agree with all. A very good and sincere man who loved books and everything about them. A man who will be missed, especially by those of kindred spirit. Quote
jlawson Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Super nice guy that went out of his way to find great books. Sorry to hear of his passing. Quote
Ed Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Odd, I was just thinking of Craig a few days ago. Last I heard he was fighting cancer and I wondered how he was. Very nice gentleman, sad to hear he has passed. Quote
Curran Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Craig was one of us hit hard by the Great Recession of 2008-2009. A gentleman of extremely kind spirit, I hoped he would make it back to our Nihonto community some day. Learned a few things from him and have long missed his presence. Quote
Brian Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Sad to hear this. I remember his posts here, and how sad everyone was when he had to give up the book selling business. Seemed a well liked guy, and an integral part of the Nihonto community. RIP Craig, and condolences to his friends and family. Brian Quote
Marius Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Oh, what sad news...I have never met Craig, but we have exchanged a few emails and my first old soft metal tsuba came from his collection... Quote
Gilles Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 How sad ! I happen to buy some books from him and he was a very kind person. Quote
Jean Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 RIP Craig. Very sad news. I was really sorry when he had to give up his business. I remember ordering from him a very old book from the beginning of last century. It was "lost" in the post. Craig went at length to find another copy of this book to send it to me and believe me it was a hard task. Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 I had seen a notice earlier and thought is was another fellow, then saw Debbies name. Way too young. Condolences go to her and family. John Quote
DirkO Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Bought dozens of books from him, a stand up guy! I hope he really is on his Bridge of Dreams now - RIP Craig Quote
Toryu2020 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Missed a chance to go and see him when in Chicago. Count me as one who will also have fond memories when reaching for the bookshelf. -t Quote
mdiddy Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I met Craig at a Chicago show and had a good talk about favorite pieces and he enlightened me about some of his tsuba. He is responsible for a significant chunk of my nihonto library. He will be missed. Quote
BMarkhasin Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 All who new Craig will appreciate that our community has lost someone very special. When I think of Craig, I recall the items he chose to collect and taught me to appreciate. He loved little kokinko / tachikangushi tsuba -- simple, honest and common tsuba with depth and character that could only be discovered with handling and contemplation. They were an insight into his character and personality. Thank you, and rest in peace Craig... B Quote
