Please correct me if I'm off base, but would the clearest signs be the limited file marks on the tang, weak mei, and the kissaki?  Also, would the mekugi ana ever go through the mei that way?

True. In cases like this, you should be asking "what looks Japanese" instead of "what doesn't look Japanese.."

Nothing here should fool anyone who has done even a small amount of research. The fittings are horrible and cast...the nakago isn't even close. The very visible "grain" isn't close.

No reflection on the original poster, I hope he will stick with it and learn and get a nice sword next. But those reading who are considering their first sword, don't do it until you have studied and asked.
