Nickupero Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 The best way to explain this is a cheap Chinese copy, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, hope you didn't pay much for it. Quote
Derek Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 I agree with Nick. Please read http://jssus.org/nkp/fake_japanese_swords.html Sorry Quote
smicha6551 Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Please correct me if I'm off base, but would the clearest signs be the limited file marks on the tang, weak mei, and the kissaki? Also, would the mekugi ana ever go through the mei that way? Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 Research and you'll be able to answer your own questions. Literally everything about this sword (and mounts) scream fake. Quote
Brian Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 True. In cases like this, you should be asking "what looks Japanese" instead of "what doesn't look Japanese.." Nothing here should fool anyone who has done even a small amount of research. The fittings are horrible and cast...the nakago isn't even close. The very visible "grain" isn't close. No reflection on the original poster, I hope he will stick with it and learn and get a nice sword next. But those reading who are considering their first sword, don't do it until you have studied and asked. Brian Quote
nihonto1001 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Don't let it get you down. We have all had to learn the hard way. It makes the successes that much better. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 You'd be shocked how many people would post if someone created a "Your worst purchase" thread... ...in fact... 1 Quote
