Matt300ZXT Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 I was told by some guys on another forum to check with you guys. I made a thread on pictures of the sword, but since this forum deals with translations I thought I'd put this picture here. This is on a tsuba that came with a sword I purchased (it has a Fred Lohman tsuba on the sword) and thought someone might be able to tell me what this is: This doesn't fit the sword at all, and won't w/o some modification, but the other guys said check with you guys before I even touch this thing to see what I've got, whether it's special or not. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 Mike Its a cast copy of a ORG...tsuba, you may file a bit at a time to fit. Quote
Brian Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 Stephen, You sure it is a cast copy? Not saying it isn't..but I don't see the usual indicators and that is a heck of a lot of surface treatment on a cast tsuba. What we do know is that the mei isn't a signature as such though. Brian Quote
Stephen Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 where are the experts when you need them? Quote
Brian Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 They have real jobs and don't spend their time at home sick with flu by the pc. Brian 1 Quote
Matt300ZXT Posted April 14, 2015 Author Report Posted April 14, 2015 The only thing I can gather is the 2nd character is roku, 6. I tried a draw-translate page and that first one doesn't really come out as anything that makes sense, the translator says it means "push open" but who knows if it's translating what I'm putting in, or something similar. Grey Doffin Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 I am not an expert but I see no indication that this is a cast copy. Don't file on it until someone who knows more than I tells you it is cast. Grey Quote
Matt300ZXT Posted April 14, 2015 Author Report Posted April 14, 2015 There's another pic. The guy I bought the sword from said he tried to find casting marks in the tsuba but he couldn't find any. Maybe you guys can find something we couldn't. Quote
Stephen Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 I was going by the punch marks on the ana, look too rounded for real tsuba...like others ill let the experts decide. Quote
Matt300ZXT Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 So.....26 as in there's no real reason for 26 to be there and it's not worth anything? lol Quote
Brian Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 26 as in there is no real reason for 26 to be there...yes. But if the tsuba is real then it still has value as a tsuba. It's not a great one, but neither are 80% of the tsuba out there. Maybe $100 to $150? Brian Quote
Matt300ZXT Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Maybe that's how many ninja it killed in medieval Japan when on its original sword? Thanks guys, everyone on here in both of my threads have been very helpful. Quote
Stephen Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 i see sharp edges on punch marks...do we not see rounded like cast marks on ORG tsuba Quote
