jakecurda Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I have come into possession of a sword, and have ben trying despreately to translate the inscriptions on the tang.......the makers signiture I was able to get with no problem......his name is Masatsune of the provence of Bushu (Musashi).......this I found on the tsuba, but the tang seems to be a dateing of some sort, but I am just not catching it, as it does not seem to be of any dateing practice that I am aware about.......and I have to confess that I am not 100% shure it is a date, seeing as I can not seem to translate it........if anyone can help me here I would appriciate it.... what ever is translated, if someone could e-mail it to me so I can file them away when a consesus has ben reached as to the translation..... thank you, Jacob (jakecurda@yahoo.com) Quote
remzy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Erm Jacob, that nakago and mei looks rather ... suspicious, got better quality pictures? Quote
Kajihei Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Made in China. The inscriptions are Chinese copies of random Japanese characters, or their attempt at something that may look and sound Japanese. The name on the tsuba is probably the original but the tsuba may be a cast copy. Kaj Quote
jakecurda Posted September 17, 2007 Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 hmmmm.......we shure of this.......although that might explain why I am haveing trouble translateing it......at fist sight it looked good, but I am no expert......and even though I know I will catch grief, I cleaned the Tang to get a better look at it (monatary value means nothing to me)......the rust though looked appropriate to the age I was told but all in all.....do we have an agreement here that the Tang is gibberish? and I wish I had better quality pictures right now, but the answer is no Jacob Quote
Jacques Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I cleaned the Tang to get a better look at it Thanks to the kami it is not a nihontô :D Quote

Jacob It isnt a monatary thing, cleaning a nihonto' nakago is utter lack of respect toward the creator and countless previous owners. But opinions might differ on this topic. Im with Jacques on this one, glad its a chinese fake! Quote
