JH Lee Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 I have a lovely wakizashi in good polish that came to me with a spot of rust. It looks like the rust initially developed in a spot of kitae-ware/grain opening. My concern is that I do not want the rust to spread visibly or deeper into the steel. I keep the blade in shirasaya, in a dry environment, well-oiled (but not overly so, of course; just a thin layer). What is the best solution for this kind of problem with rust? Is there a danger that the rust will spread or get deeper? Quote
Grey Doffin Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 I doubt that the rust will get worse; the oil will stop the process. And there is nothing else you can do to make it better. Grey Quote
GrantK Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 It doesn't actually look too bad to me. However, I have never had rust develop on my blades so I can't be exactly certain so hopefully more people chime in. Best, Grant Quote
JH Lee Posted April 5, 2015 Author Report Posted April 5, 2015 I don't know. Like I said, I received it in this condition when I bought it. Quote
