It is darker in person, it is difficult to photograph without getting some reflection back making it look lighter. One side is lighter in color. Not the best of pictures.

 

Were there more gold tones to this at one time? Not sure of how the gold is applied to tsuba's  -Rob

yep. Quite a range with the Edo examples.

Cut the gold content even a little bit from 4.6% or whatever the magic number is [not going to bother looking it up right now] and you go away from that beautiful darkside of the moon black.

Kyō-kanagushi, late Edo, in my opinion. The tsuba is nice, but the workmanship is not as good as one would expect from Mino/Gotō.
