austin_militaria Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 I don't know to much about tsuba's but I am pretty sure this is a decent one. Not sure how much gold highlights it originally had. The reverse is the same design. No signature. Comments are more then welcome. Quote
b.hennick Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 Shout out to The Mantis Dude - Hey Ken any comments on this Mantis tsuba? I too think that it is Mino Goto. Quote
Curran Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 Edo Mino. Looks like someone might have cleaned it. Should be darker. Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 I wonder Curran, there is a range of colour to these guys. I have Mino-bori more brownish in colour and some black as the Moon's backside. John Quote
austin_militaria Posted April 2, 2015 Author Report Posted April 2, 2015 It is darker in person, it is difficult to photograph without getting some reflection back making it look lighter. One side is lighter in color. Not the best of pictures. Were there more gold tones to this at one time? Not sure of how the gold is applied to tsuba's -Rob Quote
Curran Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 John, yep. Quite a range with the Edo examples. Cut the gold content even a little bit from 4.6% or whatever the magic number is [not going to bother looking it up right now] and you go away from that beautiful darkside of the moon black. Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 Yes and worn as well. I think there was more gilding at one time. John Quote
SHObill Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 Wow nice ! I luv Mantis subject. mmmm first post! Quote
Curran Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 an example of Edo Mino f/k http://page14.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/s442687991 Quote
MauroP Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 Kyō-kanagushi, late Edo, in my opinion. The tsuba is nice, but the workmanship is not as good as one would expect from Mino/Gotō. Bye, Mauro Quote
