terminus Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Hi,I'm looking to buy a very specefic looking tsuba. Only person I know who makes them is Yoshindo Yoshihara at the moment. I'm looking to buy these kinds of tsuba or anything that look likes them. Thanks,Tony
Pete Klein Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Yoshindo Yoshihara is usually at the San Fran show so if you are going you could ask him about it. He usually has a few tsuba out on his table.
cabowen Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 No doubt Ford Hallam or Kevin Adams could make one for you as well.
drjoe Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 as you might know, a tsuba very close to the one the in your pictures was sold by ed konno:http://www.japaneseartswords.com/node/102 Yoshindo san does not make a lot of tsuba and I'm sure these few were one-offs. i would definitely recommend commissioning something from someone like Ford, Kevin, or Marcus Chambers if it's the look you want rather than Yoshindo's name.
Ed Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 You don't see too many tsuba by Yoshindo. As others have indicated having one made by another artist would probably be your best bet. When you say "Very specific" do you mean the octagonal shape or only the Tosho/Katchushi style ???? Here's one Yoshindo made in 05'.
cabowen Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 How do you think he does the sukashi work? Traditionally with drills, files, saws, or water jet ?
b.hennick Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 I think that Mike Yamasaki had one for sale.

Do you know what price he personally sells his swords at? (ive seen his swords ranging from 10k-50k usd). I think that Mike Yamasaki had one for sale. Yep, It's on hold on his website which is where i got the picture from. Trying to see if i can buy it.
