Brian Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Some will complain that I am watering down the Nihonto theme of this site. But I find that too often, the other Japanese Arts are intertwined with the understanding of Japanese culture and therefore the understanding of Japanese swords. And since there is obviously an interest in the other arts such as pottery, calligraphy, painting and all the others, I feel this is a natural progression for the forum. Please post your discussions on all Japanese arts in this section. I am going to try and maintain a certain level here, which will mean a learning curve. Hopefully we will be able to stick to traditional arts that are relevant. The rules will be adjusted slightly as we go along. Note that we do not claim to have experts on every aspect of Japanese arts here, and cannot guarantee any answers to questions. This is mainly for appreciation and sharing of a common interest. I encourage people to make use of any specialist forums out there where possible. Otherwise, have fun. Brian 11 Quote
Kevin Adams Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Great idea Brian - there's much cultural cross-pollination between the various crafts and art forms, and this could be an opportunity to study some of those complexities. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Inextricable from Japanese art, history, culture and politics - Its ALL sword related - looking very much forward to more learning from the great minds collected here! -t 2 Quote
Steve Waszak Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015  Well done, Brian. There really is no valid argument against such a forum here on NMB: As Kevin and Thomas say, it is all interrelated. In fact, I would suggest that to study nihonto and tosogu without larger cultural contexts (as may be represented by various other art/craft forms) is likely to yield less convincing conclusions. Thanks for adding this forum, Brian. Cheers, Steve 1 Quote
