Henry Wilson Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 I recently bought a box for one of my koshirae. I was very impressed with the service and would hearty recommend the following company. Everything is modern made and of great quality. http://www.katanatansu.jp/ Henry Wilson 1 Quote
Brian Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Henry, Any pics of yours? was it custom made to your specific size requirements, or did you pick from a standard size? Brian Quote
Henry Wilson Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 Hi Brian It is just a plain wooden standard size box. I have reduced my collection a lot and a sword tansu takes up too much space, so I sold mine and got a box instead, just like the one below: http://www.katanatansu.jp/katanahako%E6%9C%83%E6%B4%A5%E6%A1%90%E5%88%80%E7%AE%B1/ Quote
Fuuten Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Any chance they have a English version of that site? Quote
Henry Wilson Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 There does not appear to be one, but send them a message and you never know. Quote

Ichi Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 I like their irori, but they don't list any prices: http://www.katanatansu.jp/irori置き囲炉裏/ Erol Quote
Brian Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 I have a similar box for a wakizashi and koshirae from Darcy, and I can highly recommend it for storage. Brian Quote

Brian Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Yes...I didn't mean it was a modern one...but it is the same style/tradition. And a great thing to have with a sword. Obviously the modern ones are made to the old tradition to this day. Brian Quote
cabowen Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Many times a new box is better than an old one... Quote

cabowen Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Nothing. Many times though an older box has issues that render it unfit or less than ideal for its intended purpose. Wood warps and shrinks, joints become loose, insects chew holes, cracks develop, etc., all of which can cause poor sealing. Quote
