Any pics of yours? was it custom made to your specific size requirements, or did you pick from a standard size?

I have a similar box for a wakizashi and koshirae from Darcy, and I can highly recommend it for storage.

Yours is old old, the item was found with that box.

Yes...I didn't mean it was a modern one...but it is the same style/tradition. And a great thing to have with a sword. Obviously the modern ones are made to the old tradition to this day.

Many times a new box is better than an old one... ;-)

What is wrong with an old box if it is in good condition? I like the look and feel of old wood.

Nothing. Many times though an older box has issues that render it unfit or less than ideal for its intended purpose. Wood warps and shrinks, joints become loose, insects chew holes, cracks develop, etc., all of which can cause poor sealing.
