When I met the gentleman he had changed his mind about price and was sitting at $2,000 for the pair. Let me know if this is a wise decision, I can only afford to keep one more than likely.

I don't think you will lose anything at $2000 for the pair. :)

No photo of the nakago (tang) of the shorter sword?

Long sword is signed Kaneyoshi. Probably a Mino smith...Looks like a decent sword.

I wasn't sure how to get the handle off.....

Yeah, that does appear to be a bit of a puzzle! :dunno:

I think there are two possibilities: one, it could be a friction fit with possibly some pitch holding it tight. Or, the two menuki (metal pieces on the sides of the handle) are covering a pin through the handle. They look attached though so maybe a friction fit...You need to find someone that knows what they are doing to check...

In any case, if you can buy them both for $2000 I think no matter what you find you will be ok...

I would think you could sell the small for the price of both, and end with a free sword. Be sure to wipe both blades with alight oil. Looks like its done some bush cutting, residue may start some rusting.

Josh.

If that was me all you would be hearing would be the patter of my little tiny

feet as I rushed to the bank to get the cash.  Enjoy!

All the best.

Great finds,  I do love the kashirae of the Otanto,  what excellent fittings and craftsmanship.   Willing to trade a decent wife for it!

Best Regards,

No, that ain't necessarily so, guys.  My wife also swings swords,

& as long as I check in with her budget-wise, buying quality Nihonto isn't much of a problem.

A deal has been concluded and the buyer is awaiting the swords. He will update us when he receives them and I'll unlock this.
