dnmmilo Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 G'day Guys, I've got a Wakizashi with a heavily stained linen tag with a handwritten inscription in Japanese written on it. I'd be really grateful if someone could translate it for me. I have also included some photo's of the sword. The fittings on the Tsuba are heavier than others I've held. Is it possible these are better quality than the sword? Cheers David Quote
Brian Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Interesting little wakizashi. What is the blade length? The tag will be a surrender tag with an owner's name and address most likely. Brian Quote
dnmmilo Posted February 14, 2015 Author Report Posted February 14, 2015 Cheers Brian, I'll measure it tomorrow and let you know. It would certainly be interesting to know what it says. David Quote
dnmmilo Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 G'day Brian, The blade length to the edge of the habaki is 456mm. I've also added another photograph of the inscription on the tag in the hope that someone is able to read it. Cheers David Quote
dnmmilo Posted February 16, 2015 Author Report Posted February 16, 2015 G'day, Are there any other angles that I need to photograph this tag in to allow for translation. Grateful for any assistance. Cheers David Quote

Brian Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 I don't think there is enough visible and clear enough to make it out. Maybe a few characters, but they might be meaningless without the others filling in the big picture. Brian Quote
dnmmilo Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 Thanks Brian, Hamish. I'll try and get some clearer an more detailed pictures. Cheers David Quote
